You're welcome to just pop in without booking, but we may not have room for you if the studio is already full.

-
Can I purchase food & drinks to have while painting?Baytree has an excellent restaurant and coffee house that provide take away drinks and food that you are welcome to bring into the studio. You are also welcome to bring your own drinks along with you.
-
Are there toilets and baby change facilities? We don't have toilets in the studio, but the garden centre we're based in does and they are within easy access.
-
Can I take my piece home on the day?It really depends on the reason for your visit. Any pottery that you have painted, baby keepsakes and any workshops involving clay or glass can't be taken home on the same day as they need to be fired in the kiln. We do offer a postal service (Prices start at £6.50) if you're unable to collect your pieces in person. If you take part in any other workshops or decorate your pottery in foam clay, you will be able to take your masterpiece home at the end of the session.
-
When will my pieces be ready to collect? All painted pottery typically takes one week to be ready for you to collect, if this is any different then we will tell you on the day. Clay workshops and glass workshops usually take two weeks.
-
I can't get back to collect my piece, how long will you keep hold of it?We keep hold of your finished items for a maximum of three months due to limited space. If you can't get back in that time, you can always give us a ring and pay for it to be posted to you (postage starts at £6.50).
-
Is there somewhere for children to play?Just outside the studio, Baytree has a children's play area and sandpit.
-
Do you sell gift vouchers? We do. We sell painting vouchers, workshop vouchers and baby keepsake vouchers. They are non refundable and valid for one year.

So what am I booking? The booking is for a table of up to 6 people to paint for a 2 hour session. If there are more than 6 people then just get in touch to book. Our painting sessions start at 10am, 12pm and 2pm. Our "Grown Ups' evenings start at 7pm.
-
What does it cost?Visiting the studio is free, there is no studio fee to paint with us. The cost of the visit will depend on the items that you choose to paint on the day, there are no extra fees that we add onto your bill.
-
Do you have a price list?We don't have a price list as our stock is forever changing. There are hundreds of items to choose from ranging from £5 to £45.
-
What is there to paint?Far too much to list but, to give you an idea, we have plates, mugs, jugs, vases, teapots, pots and trinkets dishes, ornaments, animals, figures, money boxes, fairies, dragons, picture frames, seasonal items... the list is endless.
-
What age do you need to be to paint?Pottery painting is suitable for everyone! We have babies under one who sponge, smush and splat the paint onto their piece, and our oldest painter so far was 98.
-
Do I have to be artistic?Absolutely not! We have plenty of tips, tricks and 'cheats' with stencils, stickers and fabulous paints, meaning that even the least arty-feeling person can paint a fabulous piece. Just ask one of our Doodles team when you visit, and we will give you as much help and guidance as you like!
-
What happens when I finish painting?Your pottery has to be left with us to be glazed and fired. It will be ready to collect a week later and we will keep pieces for up to 3 months if you can't collect them straight away.
-
Can I take my painting home the same day? We're afraid not. All the pottery you paint has to be fired in the kiln. It'll be ready to collect a week after you paint it. If you're unable to collect in person, we can arrange to post it to you. Postage costs start at £6.50.
-
Do I have to finish my painting in my 2 hour session? No, not at all. Some of our larger pieces take more time to paint, so we are happy to put your piece in our cupboard until your next painting session. There is no extra charge for this. We do ask that you return within 3 months to finish your piece as we have limited space and after this time we can no longer keep hold of them.
-
I can't get back to collect my piece, how long will you keep hold of it?We keep hold of your finished items for 3 months maximum due to limited space. If you can't get back in that time, give us a ring and we can arrange to post it to you at your expense.
-
Is my painted pottery food safe, dishwasher safe & able to go in the microwave? All glazed and fired pottery is food safe. Our mugs are perfect for a cuppa! We don't recommend you dishwash your pieces. You have spent time and love painting them and hand washing is always the best way to keep it in tip top condition. They are not microwave safe and get very hot if you do put them in the microwave.
-
Can my pottery live outside in the garden?Yes, some of our pieces are perfect for brightening up your garden. However they are not frost safe so bring them inside during winter.
-
How do I get to the studio for a Grown Ups evening when Baytree is closed? For evening workshops and grown ups painting just drive into the carpark as normal. Park on the right at the end of the main building, and you'll see a sign on the silver gate saying "Doodles After Hours Entrance". We open this gate about 10 minutes before the session starts.
-
How do I book a workshop?Workshops can easily be booked online through our website, but if you'd prefer you can also give us a ring or pop into the studio to book.
-
When do I pay for my workshop? We take payment at the time of booking.
-
Do I need any experience? No not at all! All our workshops are designed with beginners in mind but are also suitable for those who want to develop their skills.
-
How old do I need to be to take part in a workshop? Our evening workshops are aimed at adults but secondary school aged children are welcome to join in. Family workshops are ideally for school aged children, but for younger children you are the best judge of how your child will be. If they can follow instructions and listen , then with your help they should be fine. Adults are also more than welcome to book onto our family workshops.
-
I've taken part in a clay workshop, when can I come back to paint my piece.Your clay masterpiece will need to dry slowly before we fire it the first time so it's ready to paint. This takes about 2 weeks and we will send you an email when it's ready to paint. We ask that you return to paint your item within 3 months as we have limited space and cannot keep any unpainted items after this time.
-
What happens if I need to cancel my workshop place?Sometimes plans change so if you need to cancel, then please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your space to someone else. You may cancel your booking up to 48 hours before the workshop begins and receive a full refund. If you cancel a workshop between 48 and 24 hours you will receive a gift certificate to attend a future class. Cancellation requests made within 24 hours of the workshop start time may not receive a refund nor a voucher. When you book your workshop you agree to these terms.
