Join Maisie The Touring Potter for a half day pottery course! This workshop is designed for those who have potted with Maisie in the past or have some pottery experience. You will learn how to : MORNING 10-11.30 - Centre clay - Hand throw larger pots and bowls on the wheel. Which could be adapted into functional items such as a small vase, mug or plant pot. - Maisie will help you to troubleshoot your throwing technique to help you develop and improve your skills. BREAK 11.30-12.30 In this time Maisie will dry your pots until they are leather hard. AFTERNOON 12.30-2 - Learn how to turn and trim your pots on the pottery wheel. This is a finishing technique where potters create a foot ring on the base of their wares. This will take your creations to the next level! - smooth and finish your wares readying for firing this includes adding decoration and handles too! At the end of the class Maisie will need to take the clay masterpieces away to be fired in the kiln. She will offer a selection of stoneware glazes for your pieces to be coated in so you get to choose your own finish. They will be returned to you when she is next Touring in Spalding! Please note on the rare occasion a piece gets broken in the firing process Maisie will make you a replacement. You are welcome to bring along a friend to watch and take photos but please do not bring babies, young children and dogs with you. Aprons will be provided but old clothes are best as it can get a little messy! Short nails and long hair tied back is recommended. Places are limited to 6 people per session who each get their own wheel to work on.
